Gridiron Qld is very excited to announce that there will be a new club contesting the 2016 season!
“The Griffith University Thunder’ will be based at Griffith University, Nathan Campus. The club’s full name is Griffith University Gridiron Football Club and the club nickname will be the Thunder.
As stated , the club is located at Griffith University, Nathan Campus, Kessells Rd, Nathan. The club colours will be the Griffith University colours of black, white and red.
The Club will be fielding teams in the Men’s and Women’s competitions.
The coaching staff will be
Men’s – Head Coach, Phil Crick
Assistant Head Coach, Nigel Law
Women’s – Head Coach, Kelvin Howsan
In a very exciting first, this is the the first University affiliated Club in Qld Gridiron history. This will open up a new market of potential players, coaches and officials that has not previously been fully utilized.
Club officials and players have attended four Open Campus days over the last two weeks and the interest has been overwhelming.
A spokesman for the University Sports Dept commented: “We have never seen a new Sporting Club attract so much interest in its first year of involvement”
We wish the Thunder the very best of luck in 2016 and beyond, and we welcome the continued growth and interest in this fantastic sport we all enjoy being involved with so much.
